Kathryn studied Commerce at UWA and is currently completing her Certified Financial Planner qualification. Prior to joining Capital Partners in 2014, Kathryn worked in the stockbroking industry. Her decision to move into financial planning was based on her belief that wealth management and delivering real value to clients needed to encompass more than just investment advice.
What do you enjoy most about wealth management?
Financial well-being is so important, but because people don’t know where to start it can often be put in the ‘too-hard’ basket. Then they are left with poor investments, fees eating away at their superannuation, high interest rates on loans…. It can be overwhelming to sort out. I love the idea that we can help people organise all the different parts of their finances, and get them a great outcome, which can positively influence their entire life.
What’s the biggest challenge?
Because sorting out your personal finances can be so challenging, people don’t want to deal with it. It’s hard when you know you could really make a difference to someone but it’s low on their priority list.
What do you love most about being part of Capital Partners?
Capital Partners is a great collaborative team environment – there is always someone to work through an idea or strategy with, and the support for all staff to achieve their own personal goals is amazing.
What quality of yours makes you suited to what you do?
I’m very organised and I love helping people.
How should people think about their wealth?
As a building block for everything else in their life. Get it sorted and it will be a great foundation for everything you do.
What do you love to do outside of work?
Outside of work I love to enjoy everything that our evolving city has to offer – especially new restaurants, the beach and great weather. I play netball in winter and when there’s a bit less rain I like getting out in the sunshine and playing golf.
What does your ideal holiday look like?
A European summer, enjoying the extra-long daylight hours in the northern hemisphere, discovering different cities, living like a local and spending lots of time by the beach.
